Radio Pakistan listenership increases in FATA

A survey report says that listenership of Radio Pakistan has increased in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).

A survey report says that listenership of Radio Pakistan in the Federally Administrated Tribal Area increased from thirty percent in 2008 to forty nine percent in 2011. The survey compiled by the International Organisation Community Appraisal Motivation Programme (CAMP) says more tribal people now rely for news on Radio Pakistan.
Talking to Radio Pakistan about this report‚ Chairman Policy Institute Peshawar Khalid Aziz said Radio is one of the major sources of information in FATA and that is why its listenership among the people has increased. He said about eighty percent people in FATA get news from radio‚ and in the tribal society‚ radio becomes an important source of connection among the people.

Khalid Aziz said Radio Pakistan has the infrastructure‚ which can be effectively used to improve law and order situation in the tribal region. He said radio can prove a source of communication and connection between people having different views in the tribal areas.

Giving his comments about the increased Radio Pakistan listenership Peshawar-based senior journalist Shamim Shahid said radio has an important role to play in a society where people have very few sources of information. He said radio can prove highly effective in creating awareness among the people about extremism and terrorism. He agreed that that the number of radio listeners has considerably increased in FATA after the present government's reforms towards FATA.
